Fake Flowers 03:57
Well every word is tainted with a pale shade of blue There's no denying any request from you I'll never be the one to follow up on amends But for so long I took the flowers that you'd send CH You'd give me fake flowers when you'd go All that money spent but you were halfway out the door Well it never was real, and the only way that you could show Was to give me, fake flowers when you'd go One hundred tales already told Some talk of fire and some talk of gold You'd hide behind that gaze and whisper something fine But we all know that those flowers they ain't mine
2.
I Can't Pray 04:39
The holy ghost is my bottle He won't tell me my sins He's got a mind to drive me crazy Everywhere I go and everywhere I been Well I read the gospel when it needed me But it's the label that I see 'Cause I got nothin' more to show For the demons that I do keep CH Oh well the lord, lord knows that I can't pray Seems like someone here well they don't want it that way If you believe me and what I say Go tell them all That I can't pray Well I have faith in the bottle And what's within So don't call me good for nothing 'Til you been where I been Bridge Go ask the angel of mercy There ain't no one that's heard me To call upon the one that's served me Served me nothing but shame I'm tellin' you when the time comes And my beliefs they do sway I'll grab a hold of that handle And throw that moonshine away
3.
Sing I Do 04:01
I'll fall for the next man I see I don't care who, 'cause if he'll marry me Then I'll like his eyes and nose I'm sure Just give me a love that is good and so pure He'll come to me with a gesture so grand It'll wipe away tears and put a ring on my hand Well, next time he calls, be sure to give him mine 'Cause I'm not gonna waste his time I'll sing I do with bells on I'll sing I do with bells on My number's up and he will be gone I'll sing I do, I do Well the sun always shines when I'm locked inside My house is empty and I lost my pride So don't let me down so easily Or I'll fall for the next man I see
4.
First Born Son (free) 04:10
Well the first born son carries on more than a name Strong fist closed tightly around all he'd claimed Far as the moon on a golden day He left his city eyes behind and drove away He started workin', workin' with the cold, scarred ground And he left without her knowing that he was earthly bound Well they say it can't be done, but he knows it will "I'll grow as much as there are hands to fill" CH 'Cause there ain't no mercy and there ain't no grace Not a well that's full and no plow to chase On you they shine, but for you I pray 'Cause there ain't no mercy Well the first born son found a name of his own The open skies bled through him into the dirt he sowed Growin' a life right on the ground he'd healed A man with city eyes can grow a fertile field
5.
My mama don't know my sun ain't shining My mama don't know I'm growing cold My mama don't know that silver lining And in the changin' times I'm growing old CH My mama don't know that I drink whiskey My mama don't know it's why I cry My mama don't know that I love whiskey And to the gates of heaven I'll drink it dry My mama don't know the love within me My mama don't know it warms my soul My mama don't know that untamed feelin' That's worth all her silver and gold My mama can find me in the early mornin' I warm my face in the rising sun And in the shadow of that morning Me and that bottle of whiskey are dead and done

about

Margo Valiante’s latest recording, I Can’t Pray, is her first release since 2008. The new EP was recorded with famed Austin guitarist Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen), keyboardist Riley Osbourn and her Austin-based band in just a few days at Brotherton’s South Austin studio, Ace Recording. Margo gives her audience a sense of her new approach to songwriting and a taste of her ever-evolving vocal sound. I Can’t Pray features four new songs written in the six months preceding the recording session in Nov 2009, the fifth track is a re-recording of her award-winning piece, Mama Don’t Know that made its debut on her album New Blue. Margo hopes this track will represent to her old fans how she has grown, while at the same time gaining momentum with a new fan base in the Live Music Capital of the World.

about

Margo Valiante Brooklyn, New York

MARGO COMBINES ALT-COUNTRY AND BLUES INTO A SOUND THAT IS HER OWN AMERICANA. RAISED IN WYOMING, SHE HAS BEEN CALLING BROOKLYN HOME SINCE 2010. SHE'S MOST AT HOME TELLING SAD STORIES THROUGH DARK, POWERFUL VOCALS THAT MIGHT LEAD YOU TO BELIEVE SHE WAS PROPERLY RAISED ON TOWNES VAN ZANDT AND BONNIE RAITT. HER AFFINITY FOR THE TELECASTER IS A GOOD INDICATION THAT SHE’S NOT GOING TO TIPTOE AROUND YOU. ... more
